Chartered Clinical Psychologist
Jan qualified as a clinical psychologist in 1995 and has worked as a registered clinical psychologist in Cambridge in the NHS since 2003. He obtained BA Hons and MA degrees in clinical psychology from the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa and completed a clinical psychology internship. He obtained an MSc degree in Health Psychology from UCL in 1996 and a PhD from the University of Cambridge in 2002. He completed a certificate in cognitive therapy at the Beck Institute in Philadelphia in 2003 (one-year extramural programme) and a diploma in applied clinical neuropsychology at King’s College London in 2005.
Jan has expertise in the treatment of a wide range of psychological problems in adults, including depression, mood swings, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), panic attacks, social anxiety, phobias, health anxiety, generalised anxiety and worry, and stress-related and relationship problems.
He has a particular interest in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). His books, Coping with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (Oneworld, Oxford, 2009; part of the Coping with series), and A Clinician’s Guide to Treating OCD (New Harbinger, Oakland, 2018) are available on Amazon.
He mainly uses a system of psychotherapy called cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT). He believes in working as a team with his clients to address problems in their lives actively and helping them to maximise their potential.
Jan is available at the Beechwood Practice all day from Monday to Friday.
